Welcome To My Paralyzed Life
My name is Robert Vanemon and I was born on May 6th 1978 in Williamsport Pennsylvania. I am writing this blog for a few different reasons. First, I hope my blog reaches someone out there and it helps you, because you are not alone. I also feel this will be great for me, no filter and I will not be judged.
On the 4th of July 2016, my life forever changed. I was the passenger of a car that hit a wall dead stop at 95mph. In the accident I broke my C5 and C6, severed my spine at the T10, broke all but 1, broke shoulder, broke elbow, tour muscle in shoulder an elbow, few facial fractures, collapsed left lung, chest tube left lung, blood clot left leg, internal bleeding which I needed to be life flight-ed to Geisinger hospital to undergo emergence to stop the blood loss. I was put on a vent.
Because I was DOA, they pulled me out and laid me on the ground, as I was on top of the driver. In Pennsylvania they do not have to secure you in anyway if there is someone, they can save first. I get it and understand the law. So, after my first surgery they left me go for 36 hours as I was only given a 5% chance to make it After making it the first 36, they put rods in my neck. Then I had to have a chest tube put in right lung as it collapsed when the rolled me on my side, my ribs priced my lung, then they put big plate a crossed my ribs, so it did not happen again. Then I underwent surgery on my back, had rods put in.
While all this was going on I had another issue they needed to address, they could not get a feeding tube down my throat. For some reason it closed off, they had to insert a feeding tube. Now I don’t recall how long I was out; it was a while. They were pumping tons of blood out of my lungs, so I know I was hooked up to the vent for a while also. They kept me asleep for a while and after I woke up I was still on the vent. Worse feeling in the world. I was a bit out of it so thankful. From here things seem to be missing chunks of time till I was off to rehab.
